MeteoSurf APP

A free multi-source marine forecasting App designed to provide
wind and wave conditions of the Mediterranean Sea.

Features

MeteoSurf is mainly targeted for surfers and wind-surfers but anyone who needs to know the sea conditions will take advantage from this App.

Data can be displayed as animated graphic maps, or as detailed table data. The maps refer to the whole Mediterranean Sea, while the table data is able to provide specific information for any of the major surf spots in the Med.

Search you spot by Country/Zone or click on it over a graphic map.

Installation

iOS and Android
As it is a Progressive Web App, you don't need to download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Just open the browser (Chrome on Android and Safari on iOS) and point to the following url:

http://bit.ly/meteo-surf

Once loaded the page, select Add to Home Screen from the browser settings and the app icon will be loaded in the mobile device. When launched from this icon, the internal service-worker will allow MeteoSurf to load faster without the need to open the browser.

Requirements
MeteoSurf is compatible with any iOS or Android device, without the need for any special requirement.

Automatic
updates

No need to download updates!
MeteoSurf, as a Progressive Web App, is constantly kept updated. Use the Refresh button in the lower bar frequently, as it will ensure loading the latest available version of the application. Updates of MeteoSurf, indeed, does not need to download any code, but just to "refresh" it.

CREDITS

MeteoSurf data is provided by following data sources:

  • The EU Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS), which provides regular and systematic reference information on the physical state, variability and dynamics of the ocean and marine ecosystems for the global ocean and the European regional seas. Resolution: 1/6th of degree.
  • The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast System (GFS) Atmospheric Model, providing numerical weather prediction model for the globe. Resolution: 0.5 degrees.
  • Consorzio LaMMA, a public consortium between Tuscany Region and the Italian National Research Council. These data are updated twice a day and they refer to a long-term forecast (5/6 days).
